    Annie Horton is the founder of Our Loss, a platform and community that supports those who are grieving. She has experienced multiple losses in her personal life, which motivated her to create a community of resources and support for people struggling with grief.

    Annie is a trained Death Doula and Certified Grief Educator, and she is completing her Death, Dying, and Bereavement Certificate from Wilfred Laurier's School of Social Work. She has organized events and presented at conferences on grief and death and has been featured in podcasts and media outlets discussing the importance of grief literacy.

    Through Our Loss, Annie’s vision is to create a more supportive society for folks who are living with grief.

  • Volunteer Social Worker

    Ashley completed a Bachelor of Social Work at Ryerson University, a Masters of Social Work at Laurier University and a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto.

    Ashley works from a person-centred, feminist and strengths-based perspective. She is dedicated to creating programs and safer spaces through an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens. Ashley’s therapeutic practice has focused on supporting individuals with any type of cancer diagnosis, and at any stage of diagnosis. She is experienced in supporting individuals with end of life planning and processing, grief, mourning and bereavement.

  • Volunteer Social Worker

    Jessica Milette's mother died of colorectal cancer when she was 15, which led her to join a peer support grief group for teens. Through this group, she found healing and validation of her experiences of loss, inspiring her to become a grief advocate.

    Jessica has over a decade of experience facilitating peer-to-peer support with Bereaved Families of Ontario and a Master of Social Work. She's a registered social worker, worked at Hospice, and owns Cultivating Connections, where she specializes in supporting those experiencing anticipatory grief, disenfranchised losses, and sudden deaths. Jessica is also part of the operations team for Grief Stories, a non-profit organization that promotes grief literacy and support through shared experiences. Jessica emphasizes the power of connection in tending to our relationships with those who have died and in creating connections with others.
